The Best Investment in Your Health: An Interview with Dr. Rubin Naiman

We all know that sleep is necessary for our physical and mental health, but very few know how important it really is.

Did you know that sleeping 60 – 90 minutes more per night can make you happier and healthier? But how do I get more sleep? How do I get better sleep? I just need to sleep – help!

Our VeraVia team recently interviewed Dr. Rubin Naiman, renowned sleep and dream expert, about sleep and our VeraVia Optimal Living Series upcoming sleep retreat October 4 – 6, 2019 at Park Hyatt Aviara.

Tell us about the advantages of attending a weekend retreat?

Dr. Naiman: So many of our habits – including sleep habits — are tightly linked to our surroundings, especially our homes. Attending to our sleep in a retreat setting that offers comfort, kindness, and beauty not only helps break old thought and behavior patterns related to poor sleep, it also offers an opportunity to initiate healthy new ones.

Describe the perfect person to attend our October sleep program?

Dr. Naiman: This workshop is for people who are at one time frustrated with repeated attempts to restore refreshing sleep and at the same time still hopeful that there is a path open to doing so. So many folks with insomnia feel they’ve “tried everything!” But in their hearts they sense that there is a way forward, an out of the box solution that is somehow hidden in plain view. This workshop is for people who hold on to hope that there is a better way. And it is also for those who have lost hope, but are still willing.

What is the one thing that attendees say after they attend a Sleep weekend retreat with you?

Dr. Naiman: So many people come away with a sense of surprise that they had been trying much too hard to achieve something that they already had. They realize they’d been looking for sleep in all the wrong places. Our well-being is not just a matter of our waking life!
